I just got home. I realize that the post will have been completed later, but I can still say: “Today was a really really long day. It was a completely full day in its best sense. It was an awesome day, but it was also a very tiring day. I have enjoyed every minute of it”.
Honestly… it has felt longer than a day, because on two days effectively blended into one. Let me explain. On Thursday I had to wake up earlier than usual, to finish certain projects and do some stuff and then in the evening I headed towards work. It’s funny, really, because when some people were leaving work at 21.00, I was coming in. Even one of my co-workers in the Bible Society of Slovenia was quite startled when I entered into the room albeit only the general secretary and one more person were missing from being an office full of our complete staff. We were laughing and laughing and even called Matjaž, the General Secretary so that he could have laugh on our situation as well. He might as well have joined us. Oh, well. It was late… Eventually, though, even Martina and Tilen had left the premisses, so only Benjamin and I remained finishing up prayer sheets and some other preparations for the following morning.
You see, since we knew, or at least anticipated, that we would have worked late into the night, Benjamin came to work with the caravan so that we would just stay the night in Ljubljana and then continue in the early morning. We wrapped it up at around 02.00 and slept just a few hours. For me, honestly, I wasn’t sleeping as much as I was merely in that odd state of not being awake nor being asleep. New place, I guess…
Anyways… the evening in my mind somehow blended into the morning with few gaps, and oddly I was quite awake, though my eyes felt as if they were open for a very long time without rest. You know that feeling, right?
I don’t know how, but prayer has that calming, yet awakening feeling which just fills you up for the rest of the day. At least that’s how I experience it. Besides, what’s better than a morning with some tea, biscuits, prayer, and something resembling a group breakfast on one plate? Here are some photos from the morning. A dear friend of mine, Julijana, also joined the Prayer breakfast I think it was a nice intro into the day for her as well. After the morning I had some more work to do but soon after noon we left for Bloke. If you remember couple posts back, I visited my friends Darja and Damjan on the same spot as I was heading this time, however the difference was in the person seating on the shotgun seat. Instead of Anelisa, this time her sister Julijana came. She would have come that other time as well had she not had some other plans that crossed over the visit. You see, both of them are like sisters to me, and one of the things I like to do most is serving people, so by bringing them into a community of Bible believing people who also love serving, is a great pleasure for me. Besides, I think car conversations are a really great tool for getting to know people even more. Somehow those kinds of conversations just stick and make people more attached to each other, quite possibly because the conversations can go into great depth (or width for that matter 😉 ). I am so excited for the summer. All three of us, Anelisa, Julijana and I will be helping out on Darja and Damjan’s “Ranch“. I can’t wait.
Anyhow… when the relatively long drive to their place was concluded, another chapter of the day began. We had lunch that seemed to have waited just for us two to eat it, since it had just kept the last beats of heat in it. Still, it was delicious. Lunch was a good way to wrap us into the plan of the day. We were going to help putting the Tepee up. First it seemed that it’s gonna be quick to put up each one doing their own thing, but we soon realized that team work, especially communicating well, will have been absolutely necessary for the completion of the project.
We were so happy when the Tepee was up, especially since it was done in the high afternoon sun. Luckily some clouds and wind came in, making the temperature and the atmosphere just about right.
In the mean time I had my camera around to test out my theory and trying to shoot in the time of very bright and direct sunlight as well as just after it. The theory goes: expose for the sky even if the shadows are darker, and then bring out shadows in post. You see, you can never bring back overblown images, but you can bring some darks back. So I did. I knew that my theory worked in environments, where the light was diffused or when the light was not too harsh, to not create too many harsh nor black spots – and doing so by not using additional flash. Though not perfectly suitable at every shutter speed, I think the images turned out great, don’t you?
